No matter how many Kms are between us. You still being the best I could have. I couldn't ignore this day. Since I was born, Mother's day is everyday thanks to you, but I do like lame things!

Não importa quantos Kms nos separam. Ainda assim és a melhor que eu poderia ter. Eu não podia deixar este dia em branco. Desde que nasci que o dia de mãe é todos os dias graças a ti, mas eu gosto de coisas lamechas!

What could I offer to my mum that is far away? That knows already how much I love her? That hates chocolate and flowers? A box! A "from distance best Mum kit"! :)

O que eu poderia eu oferecer à minha mãe que está longe? Que já o quanto eu a amo? Que odeia chocolate e flores? Uma caixa! O "kit melhor Mãe à distância"! :)

Bake Sale for Nepal

Booking.com as company decided to send some funds to help Nepal. And then invited all the employees to add some help on top of it. So all the offices are cooperating and doing some efforts.

Team Nepal, from Cambridge office (where I work) decided to lead the charge in raising money for the Nepal Earthquake Relief by holding a Bake Sale. All members of this office were invited to bake and sell their goods, with all takings being donated to the Nepal Earthquake Relief.

I donate some money through the collective donations we are doing as employees, I made some brownies for the bake sale and also bought some cakes. But it's nothing compared to what we can do. Everyone is being cooperative.


Let's do our part and help people who have been affected by this natural disaster!

A Booking.com como empresa decidiu enviar fundos para ajudar o Nepal depois do sismo. E depois convidou todos os funcionários a adicionar um pouco de ajuda pessoal. Todos os escritórios estão a cooperar e fazer a sua parte para ajudar.

A Equipe Nepal, do escritório Cambridge (onde trabalho) decidiu ajudar o Nepal fazendo uma venda de bolos. Todos os membros do escritório foram convidados a fazer doces e a equipa faria a venda, com todos os lucros a serem doados para ajuda ao Nepal.

Eu já doei dinheiro através das doações coletivas que estamos a fazer como funcionários, fiz brownies para a venda de bolos e também comprei alguns bolos. Mas isto não é nada comparado com o que todos podemos fazer.

Vamos fazer a nossa parte e ajudar estas pessoas!

Transfer money to Portugal.

As I'm living in UK my salary now is in £ and in a UK bank account. But I still do need € in my Portuguese account. I was having a look to find the best option to convert £ in € and some friends (also living abroad) recommended me https://transferwise.com - it just operates online!

I tried to send 500£ to Portugal, and it would turn into 674.13€. The way they operate is interesting. I'm not sending my £ to Portugal, and I'm not receiving € from myself. The system tracks my £ sent and send to someone that transferred some other currency to £, and I'll receive € from other people that tried to convert into another currency. And that low the rates you pay, because you don't make international transparencies. Very clever! And it take a few days to be processed. I made today and I'll receive Tuesday (considering that today is Friday and Monday is Bank Holiday - if it affects I don't know).

It would have been perfect if the rest didn't happened!!

As soon as I confirmed the debit (you can pay with debit card or by bank transfer) the operation was denied and my bank blocked my card for fraud prevention. It's ok, so far. Then I contacted my bank, they were trying to help me and put me on hold for a while ... a while that took 12 minutes and than the call just drop off because I ran out of balance in my phone. Cool, thank you Lloyds bank! Apart from being expensive, it's annoying to repeat everything. But ok, lets top up some money to call again and unblock the card. Except that .. the phone company denied the payment because my credit card is blocked! AHHHHHHHHH, at this time, fuck you Lloyds Bank!

I left home to go to a branch before working, and there they couldn't unblock my card. They borrowed me the phone to call to Fraud team. Again I waited 13 minutes on the line to the answered. And then finally was unblocked.

After that, I made the transaction and was succeed. Cool!

2 hours after, I received an e-mail from TransferWise saying that my name don't match with my name on card, and I need to provide proof of identity. You should know, that I don't have the same name in my card, because some incompetent agent when made my card decided to do funny things with my name. My full name is: Maria Rodrigues De Agorreta De Alpuim, always use Maria de Alpuim. My card says that my name is Rodrigues De Agorreta DeA ....

Como eu vivo no Reino Unido o meu ordenado agora é em libras e numa conta bancária do Reino Unido. Mas eu ainda preciso de € na minha conta Portuguesa. Eu andei a pesquisar para ver a melhor opção para converter £ em € e alguns amigos que também vivem no estrangeiro recomendaram o https://transferwise.com - só funciona online!

Tentei enviar 500 £ para Portugal e que iria dar 674,13 €. O modo de operação deles é interessante. Eu não envio £ minhas para Portugal nem recebo lá € de mim mesma. O sistema rastreia as minhas £ enviadas e envia para alguém que transferiu alguma outra moeda para £, e recebo € de outras pessoas que tentaram converter € noutra moeda. E isso reduz as taxas que pagas porque não há transparências internacionais. Muito inteligente! Pode demorar alguns dias a ser processado. Eu fiz hoje e vou receber terça-feira (considerando que hoje é sexta-feira e segunda-feira é feriado - mas se isso afecta eu não sei).

E teria sido perfeito se o resto não tivesse acontecido!!

Assim que eu confirmei o débito (podes pagar com cartão de débito ou por transferência bancária) a operação foi negada e meu banco bloqueou o cartão para prevenção de fraudes. Tudo ok até aqui. Então liguei ao banco, tentaram ajudar e puseram-me em espera por um bocado ... um bocado que demorou 12 minutos até que a chamada caiu porque já não tinha saldo. Cool, obrigado Lloyds Bank! Além de ser caro, é irritante ter que repetir tudo. Mas ok, vamos carregar o telefone para como ligar de novo e desbloquear o cartão. Só que .. a companhia telefónica negou o pagamento porque o meu cartão de débito está bloqueado! Ahhhhhhhhh, neste momento, vai-te ***** Lloyds Bank!

Tive que sair de casa para ir a um balcão do banco antes de trabalhar. E quando cheguei eles não podiam desbloquear o cartão. Emprestaram-me um telefone para eu ligar para a equipa de fraude. Mais uma vez esperei 13 minutos na linha para ser atendida. E, finalmente, foi desbloqueado.

Depois disso, eu fiz a transferência e foi bem sucedido. Cool!
2 horas depois recebo um e-mail da TransferWise a dizer que o meu nome de login não corresponde ao meu nome no cartão e preciso enviar prova da identidade. Saibam que eu não tenho o mesmo nome no meu cartão porque alguém incompetente no Lloyds bank quando fiz o meu cartão decidiu fazer experiências com o meu nome. O meu nome completo é: Maria Rodrigues De Agorreta De Alpuim, e uso sempre Maria d'Alpuim. E o meu cartão diz que o meu nome é: Rodrigues De Agorreta DeA ....
